POMS MES, the
Integrated Model
It is a full function, dock to dock implementation
of WIP Management, Pre-weigh, Interactive Operating
Instructions and the underlying infrastructure and interfaces.
This model is a combination of best practices gained
by Honeywell based on 15 years of MES experience (longest
in the industry) and approximately 70 validated sites
located all over the world.
Each of the functional areas has benefits (already
listed in this document), but additional functionality
and benefits are created when the entire model is implemented.
Listed below are
additional benefits due to adopting the whole execution
model in addition to those listed for each of the modules:
• Manufacturing Orders have linked Pre-weigh and
recipe requirements
• Materials and kits staged in Pre-weigh are linked
and ‘checked in ‘ to the recipe environment
• All materials managed in the POMS MES WIP Management
function are available for Interactive Operating Instructions
• WIP Management and recipe steps are capable
of associated integration to PLC/SCADA systems
• Materials created in one Interactive Operating
Instructions may be used in another recipe actionlist
• A combined database and POMS MES functionality
provide manufacturing integration and process streamlining
• Asset, materials and personnel are seen as resources
for the whole environment.
• Common material transactions interfaced to ERP
are capable of being used in Pre-weigh and Interactive
Operating Instructions.
Conclusion
Each of the POMS MES functions (WIP Management, Pre-weigh,
Interactive Operating Instructions or the Integrated
Model) have been installed and proven in manufacturing.
All POMS MES offerings are available. The choice of
what to implement should be a business driven choice,
with clear and measurable business goals. Honeywell
has found that projects which are clearly defined in
scope, with measurable business goals, which are implemented
in phases of 6 months or less, will have a successful
startup.
